Microsoft sends Vista SP1 to Manufacturers
The first Service Pack for Windows Vista has been released to manufacturing, Microsoft has announced. English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese versions are said to be heading to assembly lines, mainly for enterprise customers, but also for OEMs who will be installing the updated version on new computers. SP1 will also be released via Windows Update, but this is not scheduled until mid-March as a manual download, and mid-April as an automatic one.
Daily Screenshot
I have decided to do something a bit different with my online presence by showing what I’m doing at a specific time (usually 5:30pm) of each day with a screenshot of my OSX desktop. Each image will be uploaded to Flickr automatically in the background, weather I am at the desk or not.
AMP Applications
Being a person whom likes to dabble with their own php and mysql based projects, I like to use my own computer as a test server. When first starting out I had the hassle of installing Apache, MySql and PHP (AMP) components individually. Creating and editing configuration files all seemed a pain in the back side to me and wasn’t very convenient for someone who just wanted to do simple testing without the hassle. I hunted down two applications that have since became a vital part in my web development and projects, as non existent as they are at the moment, over the past few years.
MAMP (for OSX) and WAMP (for Windows) are two easy to use AMP Applications with simple setups allowing you to have the power and ease of a server without having to go through all the trouble of installing each individual component. These applications are great even if you are only doing web design and hold little php knowledge. For example I have installed WordPress on these AMP Servers a number of times to redesign blogs without having the hassle of uploading to another Server. I can easily make sure I have a working design and/or script before I upload the content to a Server, allowing me to work offline without closing down a site due to redesign.
I would seriously recommend anyone who owns a website to check these out, it could save you a lot of time, and even some money.
